One of the first questions asked by new homeschoolers is “What is the best curriculum for…?” Even experienced homeschoolers ask that question when they are in a rut or when things aren’t going according to plan. The curriculum becomes the magic pill that will guarantee our kids’ education and solve any problems we might have when, in fact, the answer for one family might be the bane of another. Is curriculum really that powerful? Who is the master and who is the slave? In my experience, I have discovered there were other components to the curriculum question that determined for me what worked and what didn’t work. In this class we will explore questions to ask and ideas to consider before you ever approach the curriculum fair or the catalogs. We will also look at some of the more popular curriculums and see how they line up to these evaluation criteria. You may even come away deciding you don’t want or need a curriculum at all!
