“Education is an Atmosphere, a Discipline, a Life,” said Charlotte Mason. She was an educator that lived more than one hundred years ago in Ambleside, England. Her ideas on education were innovative in her day, and she went on to start a college for the training of teachers and governesses. In the modern world, her philosophies have been embraced by homeschooling families everywhere. She believed that, given the right environment and training, every child has a natural desire to learn. She gave us successful ways to teach every subject. Her methods of teaching, although rooted in the classical tradition, can be integrated successfully with many homeschooling styles. Her ideas work and they’re fun. And, there is no curriculum to buy! You can do this with just a library card and love.
