As Latter-day Saints, we are commanded to “seek ye out of the best books words of wisdom” (D&C 88:118) and to “study and learn, and become acquainted with all good books” (D&C 90:15). This counsel has been reaffirmed by our current prophet, President Gordon B. Hinckley, who cited “reading good books together” as one of the “Four Simple Things We Can Do to Help Our Families and Our Nation” (Ensign, Sept. 1996). Steve Bonta helps us see the value of this self-education—to understand why it is so important to immerse ourselves in the very best that literature and non-fiction have to offer. In addition, Steve demonstrates how to find these great books, and why they are worth the time it takes to seek them out and study them; he also provides us with a survey of some of the best books in various disciplines.
