Elder Holland challenged those educating the youth of Zion when he said, “I am making an unabashed appeal for a distinctly LDS approach to education.” What IS an LDS approach to education? To paraphrase Sister Esplin’s talk last conference, it is more than imparting information. It is teaching our children to understand their academic subjects in the light of revealed gospel truth. To accomplish that cohesiveness, Brother DeGraff believes we can neither recreate seminary nor have the Gospel as a side dish with our academics. Instead we must transform our teaching to an education based on the Restoration which carries truth into their hearts and bathes every subject in the light of the Gospel.
