“Does learning to say “Yo Hablo Espanol” make you fluent in Spanish? Of course not! The same way that learning to play the Maple Leaf Rag doesn’t make you fluent in the language of music. In this class we’ll dissect the music and learn what makes a song a “song”. You’ll learn how to be inspired by the music you already play then take it in a whole new direction. And we’ll discover how Beethoven turned three notes into the world’s most famous symphony. So if you want to learn how to express yourself with music as freely as you do with words (or perhaps better), this is the class for you. All techniques will be demonstrated on the piano, but are applicable to most instruments. Some basic knowledge of music theory is recommended.
