In 1969 Alvin R. Dyer was ordained an apostle by President David O. McKay, and was set apart as a counselor to the first presidency. In his blessing he was given the assignment to be the “watchman of the consecrated lands of Missouri.” He was assigned by President McKay to collect all the information he could pertaining to the “cities of Zion” that were to dot North and South America before the Savior’s return.
