He demonstrates the importance of the inclusion of the role that God has played throughout ancient and American history by foreordaining religious, political, and scientific leaders, such as the great reformers Luther, Calvin, and Knox, discoverers like Columbus, and the authors of the Constitution who were foreordained to prepare the way for the Restoration and to establish a new nation “conceived in liberty.” This view was summarized by President Ezra Taft Benson: “God, the Father of us all, uses the men of the earth, especially good men, to accomplish his purposes.” Bro. DeGraff stresses the belief that true education must include instruction in relation to God and his laws and government, not simply man’s duty to man.
