The Birds and the Bees: Sex Education at Home

There are many questions you might have about talking with your children about sex. The sooner you get comfortable with discussing the topic, the smoother future chats will go. Come learn some tips and talking points for explaining “the birds and the bees” to kids of all ages.

Merrilie Rackham is a practicing licensed family and marriage therapist, certified family life educator, and registered play therapist.  She began her teaching career as a family life educator teaching parenting classes in the community.  As a stay-at-home mom with eight children she finished her bachelor’s degree in Marriage, Family and Human Development and she continued to teach parenting classes. After completing her MS in Marriage and Family Therapy, she continued teaching as well as conducting therapy with her clients.  She has been a coordinator of family services for the agency she worked for.  One of her responsibilities was to train interns and other staff on topics pertaining to therapy. After a recent move, she began her own practice. She taught general psychology at her local community college. She has also presented at several national conferences by herself and with her twin sister, Melodie Rowbotham, PhD.
