Wednesday: Beginner's Seminar

Just like preparing to climb a mountain, your homeschool journey requires learning and preparing to make it easier. Come join these mentor moms as they help you pack and prepare for your journey. The Beginner’s Seminar is for all those thinking about homeschooling, just starting out, or even those who need some basic refresher courses.

Homeschooling is a journey that is better traveled when you are fully prepared. Our day will be filled with classes to help you in your preparation.

  • What is the path you want to take? Discover your why for homeschooling and help dispel your fears before you get started.
  • What should you pack for your journey? Is it too heavy or too light? Learn how to choose the curriculum that will help you reach your goals.
  • When it gets rough, you need to visit the watering hole. Learn how to avoid burnout and how to be patient as you are beginning your journey.
  • What do you when you find an unexpected detour on your path? Learn the 10 things you’ll be glad you know before you begin this journey to help you prepare for those detours and scenic routes that will come along your journey.

Our day will end combined with both the Focus Seminar and Beginner’s Seminar coming together to socialize and meet other moms who are traveling the same path and journey that you are.

Wednesday: Focus Seminar

Spend the day with Audrey Rindlisbacher, founder and CEO of The Mission Driven Mom, as we learn how to build a principle-centered home and homeschool.

What is a principle, and why is it important in our lives and in our homeschools? Audrey will help us understand principles and their power in our lives as we:

  • learn how to find principles in our own lives
  • gain deeper understanding to when and how to teach principles to our children
  • learn the 7 Laws of Life Mission to help prepare you to discover your own life mission

Our day will end combined with both the Focus Seminar and Beginner’s Seminar coming together to socialize and meet other moms who are traveling the same path and journey that you are.

Thursday and Friday: Home Education Conference

Are you ready to take your homeschool to the next level? Spend the day with our presenters and mentor moms to recharge, learn, and grow to help you on your journey.

As we travel our path to homeschool our children, we need to learn to trust the journey we are on, and we can work together to learn how to do that. Our speakers will inspire us on our journey by covering topics such as:

  • mentoring at home
  • DIY study abroad
  • science and religion
  • teaching writing to our children

Here’s a sampling of some of our classes:

  • Travis Parry will teach us about hidden earthquakes in our shaky world and help us learn how to live our lives on purpose.
  • Justin and Nephi Zufelt will help us learn how to build character in our children, how to talk to our kids about pornography, and entrepreneurship.
  • Rachel Spigarelli will teach us how to solve our homeschool challenges in the style of Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle.

We look forward to learning together how to travel our homeschool path and build strong, grounded homeschools that will benefit our families.

Note: Adult classes are for adults and quiet infants only. Taking noisy babies out is a courtesy to the presenter, other attendees, and future listeners of the audio recordings. A mothers’ lounge—with a live video feed—will be available. We know it can be difficult to find child care for the toddlers through tweens group, but allowing yourself to enjoy the conference experience in peace is worth it!

Family and Youth Activities

Mentor Mom Chat– Don’t you just love chatting with people who totally “get” you? On Wednesday and Thursday evenings from 7 to 10 p.m. you could choose to attend the Talent Show and the Family Dance, or you could come to the Mentor Mom Chat room and join in the fun discussions that always take place when homeschooling parents get together. We know you’ll enjoy either option!

Dad & Kids ActivitiesAre you a dad or a grandparent who is coming to conference to help keep an eye on the little ones? We have activities planned just for you to help keep them busy and active. Please fill out this webform to register for the activities below:

Naval Station Norfolk is the world’s largest naval station, and amidst the sights and sounds of this busy installation we’ll tour one of the world’s most capable naval vessels, a nuclear aircraft carrier.

Our tour is scheduled for 10am, but we’ll provide more specifics on when and where to meet as we approach the start of the conference.

Free. Registration via the LDSHE website is required.

Dads and Kids activities are on-site at the Founders Inn and Spa! We will have indoor and outdoor activities and games from 9:30am until noon. After lunch we’ll go to a science presentation at 1:30pm.

We’ll meet in the atrium at 9:30 to get started.
